 PROBIOTICS contains formulas that are the 'friendly' bacteria that help support proper GI system function. There are 100's of different strains of beneficial and harmful (pathogenic) microorganisms that reside in and pass through the intestinal tract. When the digestive system is in a healthy state, these bacteria co-exist in a balanced state.*
There are specific strains of probiotics that may have the ability to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria by either crowding them out or through a lowering of pH. It is suspected that a high pH favors the growth of many harmful bacteria. It is believed that probiotics may be degraded in potency by stomach acids or bils, so specific dosing or enteric coatings may be recommended. Since most probiotics are heat sensitive, they should be shipped with a cold pack when temperatures are above 80 degrees(approx.). Research shows that at room temperature, most probiotics degrade naturally at approximately 1/2 a percent a month for the 1st two months (1% total). To ensure the fullest potency, it is recommended to store probiotics in the refrigerator. All probiotics stocked by Total Health have been shipped by 2 day air with an ice pack (except in cooler months) and it is stored in a refrigerator until your order is filled.*
