 COENZYME Q10 is a powerful antioxidant that protects the body from free radicals. Coenzyme Q10 is also called ubiquinone, a name that signifies its widespread (ubiquitous) distribution in the body. As a coenzyme, this nutrient aids metabolic reactions, such as the complex process of transforming food into ATP, the energy the body runs on.*
Coenzyme Q10 is made from biological fermentation in a powdered form and processed into capsules (what we call 'dry' form') or emulsified in oils (rice bran oil or other vegetable fatty acids) which enhances the absorption. Some literature suggests that the emulsified or 'oil' forms will absorb 3 x better than a 'dry' form.*
For years, the primary source of Coenzyme Q10 has been from the Kaneka Corporation in Japan in the 'trans' form, which is the bioidentical form to that used in the body. Recently, there have been other countries manufacturing Coenzyme Q10 in a 50/50 form, consisting trans and cis forms. The cis form is not readily utilized in the body. Some companies refer to this as being only 50% CO Q10, meaning that a combo of trans & cis at 100 mg would equal a 50 mg CO Q10 in trans form. This specification is not usually listed on a bottle and would need to be verified by each company.*
All the products stocked by TOTAL HEALTH are 100% trans form and each product will be clearly identified as to whether it is 'dry' form (note this will be in a capsule) or the 'oil' form (these will be in softgels, gel caps or chewable tablets).*
